I think that it is reasonable to assume 5 MB will always go through without any problem, and 10MB usually will too.

Google’s Gmail service allows upto 25 MB, though I don’t think I’d ever try sending a file of that size by email.

Blackberry handhelds can’t deal with anything larger than 8 MB, but few people read mail on their Blackberry exclusively.

[note class="info"]Email is not particularly efficient at sending attachments though: they are 30% larger in transit than they are on your PC, so a 10 MB PDF will generate a 13 MB email.[/note]

[note class="idea"]If you have a website you could use your webspace (it’s easy to upload files using cPanel or an FTP program like Filezilla). You could also use a service like Dropbox.[/note]

No Google!

Somehow Microsoft seem to have forgotten to add Google to the list of options of default search engines when you first load Internet Explorer on a new installation of Windows 7.

There is an easy way to add Google as the default search engine though: the older Add Search Providers page on the Microsoft website lists Google.

All you need to do is:

Visit the Add Search Providers on the Microsoft website:

Add Search Providers page

Click on the Google entry

In the window which opens, click the Default option before pressing OK

Click "Make this my default"

Now when you type into the address/search bar, Google is set as your default search engine.

Test search

You’ll probably want to click the Turn on search suggestions option in the above screenshot, and if you have the Bing toolbar installed as in these screenshots, you’ll probably want to remove that too (from Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs)
